Masia Victoria
I have to be honest. I am very excited to show you this intimate wedding at Masia Victoria portfolio and there are several reasons for it.
First, the venue: I have already mentioned Masia Victoria is a favourite of mine because it is around the corner from my house. I’ve worked here dozens of times and I know every little corner of it. I know the owner personally, I know the catering Cloud 9…
The second reason has to do with a personal choice of mine. Something I have always wanted to bring into the wedding photography business. Let’s call it the nerdy side of me. Ever since I started in this profession (many years ago) I have shot analog cameras (film). I do it for all of my personal stuff, mainly family holidays or more artistic projects. I have an endless collection of pro gear and half of my fridge is occupied by film. A couple of years ago I decided I would start shooting film for weddings without even consulting with the clients. It was an extra expensive service I was willing to front just for my own pleasure. Fact is, those images end up being my favourite and the clients! I’d like to share some of those in this portfolio.
Third but not last: Victoria (the bride) contacted me from Canada asking for an in between package solution which we quickly solved. I thought “funny, a bride called Victoria getting married at Masia Victoria”. You always wonder what the clients are going to be like when you first meet them in person. I instantly fell in love with this couple. There is something about Canadians man… and Victoria is just so cool and smart!

First of all, let me show you the way from my house to Masia Victoria. Matts’ Cafe is a great place to have breakfast btw. Teskey being a musician chose a cool outfit and knew how to be in front of a camera. Carisma, they call it. My little analog Ricoh GR1 was out of the bag right away.

We totally improvised this. Victoria asked me “what would be a good spot to do it?” Knowing the house and its light, it wasn’t a hard decision “the entrance with the arch and you coming down the stairs” I said. Epic.

Last year, when couples started asking for the wine cellar/sistine chapel location for the ceremony, I wasn’t too convinced. I didn’t like the idea too much because of its low light. In the end, it has turned out to be a beautiful location. I really like how photos turn out here. They seem to have more emotion and sentiment. Perfect for an intimate wedding.

I wanted to try something new with this couple. Something I did for my own wedding the year before. It was completely unplanned but my wife and I stood in front of a little shack by the vineyards that safeguards a little saint sculpture. I have to idea why it’s there. It a sort of sanctuary for a saint I yet need to find out about. I shared the idea with Victoria and Teskey and they went for it. The result was one of my favourite destination wedding photos ever.

Let me start with one of the motifs of the wedding which seemed to be “shoes”. I decided to wear my traditional Catalan espadrilles to this intimate wedding. At some point I started noticing people staring and pointing at my feet. The guests seemed to love them! So I decided to snap a few analog photos back at their feet.

I have previously talked about Spanish tapas and thinly hand sliced jamón by the master jamonero (MC Jamon) in my Barcelona wedding venues post as well as in my Ultimate Guide to Getting Married in Barcelona & Sitges. Have a little Gazpacho too!

A great entrance from the couple ready to join the rest of the party. This is something I recommend doing as it looks great in photos when you get it from the right angle. You can get a good view of the sitting plan in this overhead view as well. Special mention to the bride’s brother who finished the last speech of the night with an unscripted jump. I was quick to catch it and in the right place. I had no idea he was going to go for it but, yes more of these!
