Cat and Jimbo contacted us in early November all the way from Dublin, Ireland. They had already booked Casa Nova Estate and were looking for the best photographers in the area. That is us, Fotografia Sitges 🙂
Catherine’s words were: “We love Spain and are not interested in a formal “Irish” wedding, so we’ve decided to head to Sitges.” So this couple was set to have a very informal day… apart from the wedding ceremony at Santuari del Vinyet, our favorite church in Sitges. In terms of photography, they requested very natural, not posed, fun images… That is, again, our specialty.
We met Catherine and James a couple of times before the wedding in two visits to Sitges. Our first meeting at a local cafe let us see a very casual, good-spirited couple. Catherine, being a professional event planner knew how to organize the day therefore it was just a matter of fine-tuning our work with them.
You have probably seen Casa Nova in our post on Sitges Villas. It is a cute Masia in the mountains of Garraf Natural Park. You can get there by car through a winding dirt road but the location is well worth the drive. Once there, you are in the middle of nature.
After a few photos of the bride’s preparation at the villa, we all headed down back to Sitges for the wedding ceremony. I remember telling Catherine that, maybe unknowingly, they had chosen the “posh” church in Sitges. Santuari del Vinyet is a hidden treasure for most people. The simple exterior architecture does not give out all the detailed decoration in the inside. One of its more surprising characteristics is the many scale model ships hanging from the ceiling and the beautiful pipe organ.
James’ uncle who happens to be a priest, was in charge of the ceremony, how convenient is that? Guests coming from all over the UK and Ireland packed the church. The bride’s entrance was magnificent and probably one of our favorite images of the year. Back to Casa Nova Estate, this is where the party started. Two long dinner tables were set out in the front garden. Drinks and snacks started to go around.
Once all guests sat at the table, dinner started to roll out without a pause. Lively conversation, toasts, laughs, all under the Mediterranean sky, surrounded by pine trees.
Photoshoot after dessert was the initial plan but the sun started to come down fast so we started to worry a little. Not a problem for this lovely, easy-going couple: “we’ll go now and have dessert after the photos” said Catherine joyfully. This ended up working even better as the light at this time was just perfect!
Like I’ve mentioned in other posts, we like to scout the place beforehand to find nice, romantic locations for a photo session. We were lucky to find a small field of green wheat and red poppies nearby. The pine trees and winding dirt paths worked as a beautiful Mediterranean backdrop.
Catherine and James were relaxed and joyful the whole time. We got what we wanted so we headed back to the party where the band had started to sep up. Cat and Jimbo’s friends deejayed magnificent soul music the whole evening until the band started. We are so thankful for good taste in music, it makes our job much easier!
The band simply killed it with soul music one hit after the other. Guests just couldn’t help themselves and took up the dancing floor by storm right after the newlyweds dance. When I say right after, I really mean right after. Just look at the pictures below. One of our favorite party photos and one that shows what a fun crowd this was.
We left Casa Nova and its guests to party on through the night. What happens in Sitges, stays in Sitges they say…
If you’d like to see other wedding villas in Sitges you can do so by checking our blog post in our inspiration section.
Cat and Jim also wrote a nice testimonial for us. Lovely couple these two!
